  1. Racing and sports-car company, founded by the
  2. Italian Ettore Bugatti (1881-1947). The first
  3. car was produced 1908, but it wasn't until
  4. 1924 that one of the great Bugattis, Type 35,
  5. was produced. Bugatti cars are credited with
  6. more race wins than any other. The company
  7. was taken over by Hispano Suiza after
  8. Bugatti's death in 1947. The Type 35 is
  9. credited with 2,000 race wins and dominated
  10. motor racing 1924-26. Bugatti also built
  11. classic road cars, including the Royale. All
  12. Bugatti's cars bore a distinctive
  13. horseshoe-shaped radiator. In 1986, a
  14. second-hand Bugatti exchanged hands for a
  15. world record $8.1 million.
